Divya Vatsa
Founder and President
Divya Vatsa is a senior at BASIS Scottsdale, in Scottsdale, Arizona. Divya's inspiration for establishing She's the First BASIS Scottsdale emerged from her strong belief that educational equality is a key factor to unlocking global potential and creating a strong global community. During frequent trips with her family to rural India, Divya witnessed a large educational disparity between boys and girls. She has tried to make sense of this injustice and inequality of opportunity for girls and has focused her efforts to promote girls’ empowerment and equality in education. Her love for She's the First and its mission reflect a deep-seated belief that access to education for girls can open the doors to a more promising future for them and create the next generation of female leaders.

Kimy Lecamwasam
Co-Vice President
Kimy Lecamwasam is a senior at BASIS Scottsdale, in Scottsdale,Arizona. Her inspiration for joining She's the First BASIS Scottsdale comes from her family. Her grandmother was the first girl in her village in rural Sri Lanka to go to medical school. Her grandmother would not have been able to attend school without scholarship money from
organizations like She’s the First, since her parents were poor schoolteachers. Kimy hopes to help provide education to girls in the same situation as her grandmother, since she firmly believes that education is the most important gift anyone, male or female, can receive.

Vanessa Jones
Co-Vice President
Vanessa Jones is 16 years old and a junior in high school. She has been part of She's the First since she was a freshman, and when she originally joined, the most appealing aspect was the tangible impacts that our efforts have on people all around the world. She has always been passionate about equality and human rights, so working with a strong group of friends to not only build a community within our own school but also provide opportunities for girls just like us is such a rewarding experience. She hopes to continue working with She's the First up to and even after her graduation in 2018.

Audrey Ennis
Public Relations Manager

Audrey Ennis is a senior at BASIS Scottsdale, in Scottsdale, Arizona. Her inspiration for joining She's the First BASIS Scottsdale is rooted in her desire for girls to receive not only the opportunity, but also the encouragement, necessary to pursue traditionally male-dominated fields. A third-degree black belt in Taekwondo and a prospective chemical engineer, Audrey has witnessed the disparity in participation between boys and girls firsthand. She hopes that her involvement in She’s the First will allow women to receive the same educational opportunities that men do, inspiring them to become involved in sports, pursue careers in STEM, and believe that they are capable of achieving anything.

Catherine O'Neill
Global Awareness Program Chair

Devika Shenoy
Social Media Chair

Devika Shenoy is a junior at BASIS Scottsdale. She signed up for She’s the First the moment she found out about it. Women’s rights have always been of interest to her, and our school’s chapter of She’s the First represents a manifestation of community awareness, along with engaging weekly discussions to refresh our school community’s understanding of current events. As the Social Media Chair, she believes awareness is an incredibly important aspect of getting people to advocate for the feminist agenda. Sharing media from around the world helps recruit people to support women's rights, and the movement is one that requires large scale support to be successful. She is a feminist because she respects women’s fundamental rights to equality within their own race.

Abby Marcolini
Historian

Abby Marcolini is currently a junior at BASIS Scottsdale. Upon hearing about a new club known as She’s the First during her freshman year, she immediately signed up. Being first generation American with family from the rural parts of the Philippines to the inner cities of Argentina and Colombia, she’s heard more than enough stories about the obstacles faced by her relatives to not only realize how important an education is to those that are deprived of it, but also how women are at a significant disadvantage when it comes to achieving academic success. As historian, Abby’s goal is to show the BASIS community and beyond that She’s the First is making a significant impact on the lives of girls around the world — and doing so in an enjoyable, humbling way.
